Connection help for iPad and Mac, common questions and a direct path to report a problem.
Beta access
Version 1.0.0 (4) is available for external testing on iPad and Mac. Both platforms use the same invitation.
Install Apple’s TestFlight app on the intended device, open the invitation there, then install or update MidiPaddy. See Apple’s TestFlight guidance.

Review the user manual, or jump directly to the Mac quick start. Bluetooth pairing alone does not select an output; enable the connected destination in MidiPaddy’s output routes.
Troubleshooting
No sound
MidiPaddy sends MIDI and does not generate audio. Select a receiving hardware instrument or compatible music app, use a matching MIDI channel and confirm that receiver’s audio output.
No MIDI output
Open MIDI Connections, refresh routes and enable an available output. MIDI Learn inputs and MIDI outputs are selected independently.
Studio piano keys do not play
Select Studio, leave Edit mode, close sheets and return focus to the unobscured performance surface. Studio uses the selected computer-key piano layout.
Performance or Control pad shortcuts do not play
Leave Edit mode, close sheets and return focus to the active surface. Use A S D F G H J K for the eight pads; each pad displays its assigned letter.
Chord notes are missing
Check the keyboard’s rollover limitations. Try another MidiPaddy keyboard layout or another physical keyboard.
Impact velocity is unavailable on Mac
Impact depends on whole-device motion and is available only on iPad. On Mac, use fixed velocity and the configurable Shift velocity.
The Mac build does not appear in TestFlight
Build 4 is approved for external testing. Confirm that TestFlight is installed on the Mac, then open the shared invitation on that Mac. Both platforms use the same beta invitation.
Stuck note
Use Panic. It releases tracked notes and sends MIDI All Notes Off (CC 123, value 0) on all 16 channels to selected, available outputs. A disconnected receiver cannot receive cleanup messages; reconnect it and use its own reset if necessary.
Frequently asked questions
Does MidiPaddy make sound?
No. It sends MIDI to a hardware instrument or compatible music app that produces sound.
What systems are supported?
MidiPaddy requires iPadOS 18 or later on iPad, or macOS 15 or later on an Apple silicon or Intel Mac.
Is the Mac version a web app?
No. It is an installed Mac Catalyst desktop application.
Does it work with Bluetooth MIDI?
Yes. Pair through Bluetooth MIDI, then enable the destination under output routes. Pairing alone does not select an output.
Does it work with a USB MIDI interface?
Yes. Connect a compatible USB MIDI interface, then enable its destination under output routes.
Can it control another app?
Compatible apps can receive MidiPaddy’s virtual MIDI output. Enable Virtual Output, then select MidiPaddy as an input in the receiving app.
Does it support aftertouch or MPE?
On iPad, finger-slide expression can send MIDI 1.0 Polyphonic Key Pressure. Ordinary Mac typing keys do not provide pressure aftertouch. MPE is not currently implemented.
Can I play pads from a Mac keyboard?
Yes. In Performance and Control, A S D F G H J K play the eight labeled pads, and multiple keys can be held together for chords.
Which Mac computer-keyboard layouts are available?
Split hands, DAW two-row and B-System (4-row). Choose them from the keyboard menu beneath Studio. Computer-keyboard layouts and shortcuts are Mac-only.
Do profiles synchronize between iPad and Mac?
No automatic cloud synchronization is claimed. Profiles and preferences remain local to each app installation.
Do I need an account or internet?
MidiPaddy requires no account. Network MIDI naturally requires a local network, and TestFlight needs internet access for installation and updates.
